L's new bed

L is turning 5 in a few weeks. Jeff and I thought we've give her something nice that would last a few years. She's been wanting a bunk bed for a long time. Yes, I know, there's only one bed. But a loft bed is just as good (L says) and it allowed us to expand our horizons for a bed with a desk and cubbies.
This is the bed. Yep, messy as ever but it looks nice from below because you can't tell!

Her computer and desk. She is into coloring and cutting and pasting and those pieces of paper you see are things she's hung up.

The cubbies. We haven't done anything with them. Some of the prongs are being mailed to us and we haven't had time to figure out what should go there.

In addition to the bed, I got her a bean bag and shag carpet so she can read, watch movies on her portable DVD player or play DS. She loves it!

So far, she's done well with the bed. She loves sleeping up there. She's not a fraidy cat. She bonked her head good tonight on the ceiling because she was excited that I was going to read her books (which I do every night). After a few tears and some soothing, all was good.

Where did it Go?

This is how Jeff's hair has looked for the past year. He tried hard to grow it out. And he loved it some days, but not others....
..so this is how he looks now. I love both looks, but it took me a few days to get used to the new look. His regular stylist is on maternity leave and I told him when he goes back to see her, he should say "Look what happens when you leave!".

Snow Day!

Last Thursday night, it started snowing. We got 3 inches by Friday morning, and got a phone call that school was cancelled. Jeff was excited. L, not as much. Preschool was open and it was pj day. So Jeff took her in late to school. This weekend, we spent a little time outside. L made a snow angel. She got frustrated that the snow kept getting through her gloves.
Jeff shoveled the sidewalk and made a big pile of snow for L to make a slide. She even made steps to climb to the top of the "slide".
In the backyard, we found icicles on her play equipment. She picked a large one off and proceeded to lick it. What a goof!

It has been nice to have a little snow, but it was so dry, we couldn't make a snowman. Oh well, I'm sure there will be a next time!

Dental Rehab

Poor L. She has bad baby teeth. Part genetics, part bad teeth brushing. She has a mouth full of decay. We had two opinions and chose the second dentist. He is a wonderful dentist. Very caring and wants these kids to have a great smile.
Here's her before teeth. Notice the brown spots in the back...all decay. The top teeth weren't as bad, but there was gaping noticed between the front teeth. We have been deciding what to do for the past 6 months. These are her baby teeth, but they really need to be fixed. So we went ahead and scheduled surgery Jan. 16. Yes, surgery. She had to go to the hospital and receive IV sedation.

But it was all worth it. It took Dr. M 2 1/2 hours to complete the work, but the results were outstanding! He pulled two teeth and put spacers in their place so those 6 year molars will come in correctly. He capped 6 teeth, straightened out the top teeth, made sure her bite looked good. L was a great trooper! She didn't cry once. She woke up from the sedation easily and we were home a little after noon. We hung out together the rest of the day. She loves her new smile and will show anyone she can.
