It's Caturday!!!!

AJ had her first vet visit today. She was a champ-went in the kennel without a problem but then cried when the car moved. We got to the exam room, let her out and she decided the entire room was hers to check out! She was everywhere-the vet tech even let her get a drink out of the sink! She's so silly.
Dr. Gary says she looks great and was impressed at how sweet and friendly she was. She weighed in at 5 lbs 10 ounces.

Happy Caturday!

Hello all! It's Saturday, also known as Caturday. I thought I would post some weekly updates on our new girl, AJ.
I have bought her a few new toys, but this one was Reggie's (who didn't think it was exciting). AJ loves it. She keeps trying to figure out how to get the ball out.

She is WILD, but she's also very sweet. She lives to be held and cuddled.

L was printing something on her printer and AJ was super excited about what might be happening!

Totally busted for something!

Yep-she was "trying" to help me do laundry.

And then she jumped in L's laundry basket. Go figure.

She's 18 weeks old and weighs a little over 5 pounds. She's sleeping in L's room at night until she becomes a terror at 4 AM and then she gets the boot. Brings back old days of my cat Spooky.

Fitness Friday Week 3

This week has been long.  The weather is cold and dreary.  I can't remember the last day we had sunshine.  It's supposed to be in the 20's Saturday and Sunday mornings and by God, I am RUNNING OUTSIDE!!!! I am tired of indoor running.

Enough whining, here's my Fitness Friday!

Friday: Shocker Fitness and Extreme with our mile done before it all starts.  10:40

Saturday: we ran 3.02 miles at the YMCA.  Mile clocked in at 11:00

Sunday: back to the Y.  4 miles done.  Miles was 10:45

Monday: Mile 11:16, Shocker Fitness and Extreme

Tuesday: everyone wanted to get going before 5 so I opted to sleep in and run on the treadmill.  One  mile at 11:35.

Wednesday: long night Tuesday so I slept in and ran a mile (11:35) on the treadmill.

Thursday: I finally got to see my friends.  We ran 4 miles and the mile was 10:35.

That's my recap!  Have a great weekend.

What's Up Wednesday

I'm trying to blog a little more about our lives. So I'm going to try a couple new weekly posts. Don't worry Dad, I won't show you what I'm eating (at least not all the time).

Lucy discovered the electric blanket and jumps on it every night and waits for me to turn it on. She's so sweet.

AJ- apparently all kitties like to act like vultures.

She is so much fun! Last night she got stuck in our closet for an hour. She decided after being cooped up she needed to tear up the carpet in the hall by racing back and forth!

4-H meeting. Our friend, Kam, is officially a member of 4-H. Pretty cool.

Tween drama in the house=no phone for L. More drama for that consequence. I'm not sure I'm ready to parent a teen.

So that's what is up with the Welches!

Weekly Chase: Week 3

It's been a cold weekend in Wichita.  20-30F outside.  Not much fun for being outdoors.  I spent the weekend 1) playing with AJ, 2) napping and 3) watching sports.  I did get the house cleaned and my goals and chores done so I feel pretty good about myself.

Here's my results from last week:

1. Run a mile a day:Yes!!  I finished Day 238

2. Stretch and ice daily:95% of the time.  I think I didn't ice one day.  And I am feeling good.

3. Say Grace:Yes!  I often do this halfway through my meal.

4. Read or meditate daily:Yes.  I finished 'Why Not Me' by Mindy Kaling

5. Log my calories daily:Yes!  I did well with this.

6. Finish a book: YES!

7. Work on health insurance for my in laws.  I got things started but not done.  Waiting on paperwork.

This week's goals to chase!

1. Run a mile a day:

2. Stretch and ice daily: these are two keys to helping me stay healthy when I run so much.

3. Say Grace: my two reasons for this are 1) to help promote mindful eating and 2) continue in my spiritual journey

4. Read or meditate daily: reading is my form of meditation and helps me calm down in anxious moments.

5. Log my calories daily: I use Fitness Pal.  My goal is to eat healthier and lose some weight to fuel my workouts more effectively. I also joined a Diet Bet with a friend so I have a goal to lose 7.6 pounds in 4 weeks.  Yikes!

My extra goals:

1. Finish a book.

2. Work on an audit.  I need to get all my paperwork together.

Fitness Friday Week 2

What a week it's been!! Work has been steady.
Monday night L had Girl Scouts. They are working on a new project and getting ready to sell cookies.

Tuesday I presented at a meeting for an epilepsy device. We had a decent turn out.

Wednesday, we picked up something small:
Meet AJ! She's a sweet 4 month old kitten.

L loves her.

Thursday: after grocery shopping, we spent the evening introducing AJ to the dogs. They love her. She's not quite sure.

So today was day 235 of my running streak. Here's my fitness week:

Friday: shocker fitness and extreme plus our mile inside.

Saturday: it was 10F outside so we had to run the Y track.

Sunday: another 4 miles on the track. It was 9F this morning.

Monday: Koch arena mile, shocker fitness and extreme

Tuesday: it was 23F so it was good enough for us to run outside. 4 miles total.

Wednesday: back to Koch arena for the mile, SF and extreme.

Thursday: our first night with AJ was short on sleep so I slept in and ran a mile on the treadmill.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

2. Stretch and ice daily:95% of the time.  I think I didn't ice one day.  And I am feeling good.

4. Read or meditate daily:Yes.  I finished 'Me Before You' this week.

5. Log my calories daily:80% of the time.

6. Take down the Christmas decorations: Yes.  It's all put away.  Our living room looks bigger.

Fitness Friday: Week 1

Updated:  We are back to Fitness Friday!  I have continued to keep up my running streak even through the holidays.
This week went much faster than I anticipated.  I was thinking it would drag since I had to work 5 days, but it went relatively quickly.
It's been cold here this week so most of my runs have been indoors. And unfortunately, it's been pretty quiet and boring here this week.  Jeff hasn't started at BCC yet, so it's really nice to have him home every night.

Here's my Fitness Friday!

Friday (Jan. 1) : As everyone else was running a 5K downtown, I ran a mile by myself.  The morning wasn't bad.

Saturday: I ended up running by myself so it was boring.  It was also cold, but I was rewarded with observing a hot air balloon.

Sunday: back with my friends!! We ran the track at Andover Y for an hour.  It was nice to catch up with everyone.

Monday: Shocker Fitness 10 weeks session started.  We had a good run inside Koch Arena, hard Shocker Fitness and Extreme workouts.  Coach Bolt photobombed us!

Tuesday: still cold so we headed to the North Y for our run and walk.

Wednesday: I accidentally fell asleep too quickly Tuesday night and forgot to plug in my phone and set my alarm! So I ended up running a mile on the treadmill and watching 12 minutes of Scandal.

Thursday: Finally! A day outside.  It was 39F and misting but we were good with that.  Outside at Bradley Fair for 3 miles.

That's my week! Unfortunately, I see more indoor running coming this week.  I am tired of the cold already.

Weekly Chase #1 in 2016

Okay, so after a break for the holidays, I'm back at it.  I have been doing weekly chases periodically for a couple years.  I got this idea from www.roadrunnergirl.com who does a weekly chase.

So I have a list of goals that will continue to stay every week:

1. Run a mile a day: I have run a mile a day for the past 224 days.  It's been quite a journey and I love it!

My additional goals this week:

6. 4-H projects: I'm project leader for First Aid.  I need to figure out what we need to work on and help L get her other projects started.

7. Dismantle Christmas: it's time for the tree and decorations to go down for the season.

2016 Word: Gratitude (and Grace)

So last year was Mindfulness.  In some respects, I improved on staying in the moment.  The difficult part was persistently staying in the moment.  But I feel the word was appropriate for 2015.

Gratitude:
   * according to the dictionary: the quality of being thankful.
   * my favorite t shirt says Gratitude- to endure against the odds; to unite and connect; to admire, to love; to honor a hero; to be a hero.  This is so much bigger than me.

I chose this word not because I'm not grateful, but I want to work harder on being grateful.  Grateful for the little things I take for granted (the ability to run every day, to have a blanket on me while I read, etc) and to appreciate my life, family and friends more.

Some days, I feel I whip through the motions.  And I'm exhausted.  Not a good feeling.  I want to take my time and savor the moments before they are gone.

I have the exercise part down; now I want to work on my nutrition.  And being grateful and saying grace before I eat should help me accomplish this goal.

Happy 2016! May you have a wonderful year as well!
