KSU whooped some bootie!

Pat graciously invited us to join him to the KSU/North Texas game last night. It was a 6pm game (thank goodness) and the weather was nice. Not too hot and the breeze was just right. KState played very well. They had two touchdowns before the end of the 1st quarter. And they didn't let up at the end of the game. I always love to watch sports when my team shows up to play. Final score: 42-6.
There was lots of purple in the stadium. Whenever KState gets a first down, the audience gives the first down sign. It's amazing when the whole group of students does it.
L had a good time although she wishes that football would only last 3 quarters. She starts getting squirrly about that time. Daddy bought her cotton candy which she devoured in less than 20 minutes. We had to go hose her off in the bathroom when she was done (there was even cotton candy in her hair!).

Too many pictures.

I love my dad. He took so many pictures of what L was doing when we were gone and I am very grateful for that. L on the other hand, wasn't as thrilled about all of the picture taking. I think she did well for several days, but at the end, she was a little hacked off. The breakfast table brought the best (or worst, depends on how you look at it) in L. When I figure out how to add videos sometime (it's on my to do list), I'll post a too cute video of her getting mad at grandpa and great grandpa (even though the latter one was just sitting and enjoy his meal).

Oh L! You are so funny!! What cracks me up even more is 6 weeks later, you're still telling me all about the picture taking (and asking to watch the video daily)!

While we were gone...L continues to play

L had a great vacation while we were in Hawaii. She spent the week at my grandparents with my mom and dad. She had fun every day and I think missed us just a little. In fact, I heard she missed the dogs and cat more. She watched movies with great grandma. She learned how to ride her scuut bike (and really liked it). She went golfing and fishing with grandpa and great grandpa. In fact, she says she caught several fishes. I think she liked playing with the worms the best. She helped grandma cook and helped grandpa fix the faucet. It was a good time for everyone and we are so glad L had a blast and she got to spend so much time with her grandparents.

BCC Home Opener

We visited Cessna Stadium for a supposedly fun filled night. We got there in time to enjoy the free tailgating. We feasted on hot dogs and chips and it was pretty good. It was very, very hot out there. We found decent seats, although I didn't watch much of the game. I was pretty busy keeping up with L. She loves going, but she can't sit still. She did have fun cheering at the game. I've got to figure something else out because we're going to the KSU game Saturday.

Unfortunately, Butler didn't play well at all. They got lots of fouls and turnovers. They lost 23-20 but it didn't seem that close to me. Oh well...at least the weather got better after the sun went down. Nothing like a free evening hanging outdoors.

What I learned at book club

I hosted book club tonight. We had a good feast of chicken and dressing, several salads and Halloween candy (man, I can't believe that holiday is around the corner). We discussed "The Greatest Man". I learned that most thought the book wasn't great, but okay. I personally liked the book. I liked the relationships that the 4 main women had.
I learned about Theresa's parents and I learned that Denise and Lori really do a good chicken dance.

But the best thing I learned today is my new adopted motto. I've been looking for a good motto that sums up a lot and here it is (courtesy of Jaime)....

"you get what you get and you don't throw a fit". Yep, I'll be using that a lot at home and at work.

So much fun!

I'm finally getting around to getting my Hawaii pictures developed. On our last day, Jeff and I went parasailing. We chose the 800 feet trip and it was a blast!! We had so much fun!! The guide took our pictures. We really were this happy! It wasn't scary at all. The trip lasted 10 minutes. It's so amazing being that far up because it is completely peaceful. Pure silence except for Jeff and I sharing a laugh or a joke... what a wonderful experience. I'm just sorry I couldn't figure out how to rotate these pictures.

I miss her.

You know the friends you have that no matter how long it's been since you've talked, you pick up right where you left off. Well, I have a few friends like that and Jill is one of them. She was in Do-dah for a quick weekend trip and it was so nice to talk with her. It brings back all the good memories. We chatted about school, scrapbooking, and work (she loves my work stories). I miss having someone to run with.

So while I'm thrilled she loves being in K.C., I miss her.

Luau Party

Tonight we had over several friends for a luau party. We were trying to go off of our experience to the luau in Maui. And I think we did a good job. Jeff got the yard all ready for the party...games, tiki torches, etc. I fixed a wonderful meal of pork, chicken, pineapple fried rice, green beans, poi and delicious cake (see below) and homemade coconut cream pie (the best ever).

Everyone was dressed up in Hawaiian gear. I wore my coconut bra to greet everyone and then changed into a more comfortable dress. L looked wonderful! A rare pose. I think her grandpa burned her out on picture taking.

1st Day of Preschool

L,

You are such a big girl today. Going to preschool and learning all kinds of new things. And you are so excited!! I love this big grin on your face. And when I went to get you in the morning and you were ready to go!! We are so proud of all the things you do!! Love, mom and dad

L was proud to sport her Superman backpack (which came with the cape). She flew into class saying, "I'm Superwoman!!". She loved preschool. Neither she nor I cried when we got there (although I had thoughts of it). She learned how to do the popcorn song and proudly showed us tonight.

So sweet

This morning, I went to wake up L and since she wasn't waking up, I left and came back five minutes later. And then I found this cute kitty snuggled up in L's covers. She can be so cute!!
This is L in the morning. She is definitely not a morning girl. Now that preschool's starting, she goes to bed earlier, but I don't think she's falling asleep any earlier.

Yep, she said this...

L says to me, "look at my big tummy!! It is huge!" (this she says often). She follows with this:
"Look mommy, I'm like a grandpa!"

Geez.

Taco Night

We had the Konda's over for taco night. The tacos were delicious and then the kids broke out the toys and swords. Kam is almost a year old now. He's walking all by himself. He doesn't look so much like a baby anymore...he's a toddler!!

After all the sword fighting, L and Kam tried to play games. That means L wanted to play games and Kam wanted to destroy them. It was pretty entertaining.
The adults watched the Olympics and watched that great 100m butterfly race that Phelps won. That boy is a machine!!!

Got me an Ott Light

Sorry I've been such a bad blogger. There's not much going on. I need to blog about L's vacation, but need to pick up those pictures first.

But the good news is....I went to Michael's last night. I was browsing through the scrapbook section and saw these Ott lights on sale for $30. While that may seem like a lot to non scrappers, that is CHEAP for an Ott light. And I have so been wanting one. Ever since Jilly brought hers to crop a ganza I have been trying to justify spending 60 + for a light. Lucky me!!!

And it's even pink!! It's so girly, I just want to sit and enjoy the nice white light it gives off. I'm sure I'll be a better scrapbooker now.

The Quiet Weekend that Wasn't

This past weekend was supposed to be my quiet weekend to catch up. The part I did catch up on was sleep (slept 'til 11 am on Sat). But I didn't get much housework done. I wasn't motivated and Saturday night we spent at the Robinson's (who had a wonderful new kitchen party and some excellent groceries). Then Sunday, we ran a couple errands and it was time to go to see Seether and Finger Eleven. A good concert that wasn't over until midnight and the alarm ran awfully early this morning. So all that extra sleep I got last weekend didn't help because I was DRAGGING all day today.

We got to see The Dark Knight Friday (don't tell L...she likes Batman). It was very good. The story was good and Heath's acting was impeccable.

Oh well, maybe next weekend is when I'll get the house cleaned up.

Final thoughts on Maui

We spent 8 days in Maui and it was the best vacation. The eight hour flight was long and we weren't very happy with American Airlines. Apparently, they think you only need two beverages in an eight hour time span. But we were rewarded when we got to Maui. Everyone was so nice and helpful. I asked a store owner if I could park in front of his place and he said it was only a 30 minute spot. But then he followed me to my car to ask where I was going and gave me better suggestions of where to park.

The food was great. We ate all types of food. I had fish twice and fish tacos once. Jeff finally decided he doesn't like lobster. We ate haupia pies at McDonald's (that's coconut cream pies like the apple ones we have here). They had spam breakfast sandwiches at Burger King (we missed those). Even when we went to a five star restaurant we didn't feel out of place in our shorts and shirts. The dress code is very relaxed.

Interesting tidbits: people have roosters and they run free everywhere. No billboards are allowed and the signs for restaurants may only be on the building. They want to preserve the land (love that!). Hawaiian pizza is real there....one of the pizza staples.

We had a wonderful 10th wedding anniversary. We are planning on future trip back there someday. Hope you enjoyed these pictures.

Old Lahaina Luau

Jeff and I really wanted to go to a luau. So we decided to go to the best. On our last night in Maui, we went to the luau. We were lucky to get seats and then discovered we had front row traditional mat seats. It was wonderful!! They have an open bar so everyone tried to get sloshed before the event started. We had a little pre dinner entertainment. The buffet: very interesting. There was Kalua Pua'a (roasted pig): very good. Poi: yuck. Mahi Mahi: yummy, island chicken was also good. Their sweet potatoes are purple and not tasty. They also had good veggies and fruit but two raw fish salads which I passed on.
The hula dancers were great. They had an endless number of costumes and the story was very good. We were grateful to see such a good performance.
Definitely a must do if you go to Hawaii.
