Visiting Friends

To end our trip to Colorado, we had brunch at our friend's house. We met them in Wichita and sadly, Mike worked at Coleman and got transferred to Denver. So we were thrilled when we figured out we were so close. They have a beautiful home and are so much fun to visit with. Evan is a doll.

My First Gay Wedding

Steve and Dick have been together for 31 years. Six weeks ago, Colorado law made it legal for them to be married. We've know them for over a decade. Two kind people who love each other.
The wedding was simple and very nice. L got to walk Karleigh down the aisle.

Wednesday Weigh In

That's a 1.4 pound weight loss in a week. I watched my diet well and avoided a lot of salt. I didn't so great on exercising. After a 3 mile run last week, I got a really stiff neck and thought I should take a break.

But I'm determined to get back on the exercise train.

Guest Speaker

Last night I had the pleasure of hearing Khaled Hosseini speak at WSU. He has a new book out 'And the Mountains Echoed'. I've read his other two books, The Kite Runner and Thousand Splendid Suns. Both excellent and books I would re read. He is a very good speaker. We heard about what inspires him to write, his past and his family. I was thrilled to have gone to hear him.

Wednesday Weigh In

So let's start. This is a gain of 1.8 pounds from last week but I've lost 3 pounds in two weeks.

Now, in the past I would get frustrated that I gained weight. But I'm good. And I'm really proud of myself because I counted WW points all week. But I learned a few things to keep me going.

#1: I can't eat cake on two consecutive days. I do fine with my 2-4 point ice cream snacks, but homemade desserts...I start the downhill slide of craving sugar all the time. Which makes me feel more sluggish feeding the cycle. So I will watch this more carefully.

#2: I need to exercise more. And harder. Sometimes I get up and walk for three miles. And yes, it's better than nothing but I'm not giving it my all and that won't help me lose weight faster. So I have nine days before my trip. Last night I wrote out 8 workouts all different. Some swimming, one weights, one long run, hill repeat, tempo run, speed workout and a walk. This gives me flexibility to do a workout based on the time I have but keep me accountable.

Like this morning. I woke up at 6:20 then went back to sleep til 6:45 and thought "should I skip it". But then I remembered I have a meeting tonight and won't have time to exercise tonight. And I don't want to waste my one free day today. So I did hill repeats. They were hard but fun! And that makes me feel more confident.

What a Day!

And not a good kind of day. Kind of a crappy, stress eating, want to leave the office at 11 am kind of day.

The stupid EMR system was down for a couple hours (that was part of my crappy day).

But this made it much better...

Memory Lane

Uncle John and Aunt Rita were back in town. After sweating ourselves silly at L's game, we grabbed a bite at Freddy's and headed home. John showed me tons of pictures. I had so much fun listening to all the stories.

Oreo was disappointed no one was playing with him.

A Time for Celebration

My uncle Charlie celebrated 40 years ordained as a priest tonight. It's bittersweet because he's been assigned to another church an hour away starting next month. He's been in Russell for 17 years. He's built a church and parish hall from scratch. It was amazing listening to everyone talk about Charlie. So many kind words, lots of good stories and laughs. They love him.
