Since my last post, life has been one crazy trip. We have picked and re picked schools out for L. I went to check out our first choice last week. It is a wonderful school and the principal was so nice. I am crossing my fingers that L gets into it! In the meantime, we've been amazed at her. She is starting to read some words. Some I get (dog, cat), but yesterday we were waiting in line and she read the word cookies (with no sight prompting). I was impressed. We are working on teaching L to tie her own shoes. It's the only thing she hasn't mastered on the kindergarten list.
L has been sick off and on this week. She came home Wednesday with a 102 temp. She was fine an hour later. She stayed with Linda Thursday and played all day with their kitten, Lily. She went back to school Friday. I get the call at 4 pm that her throat is sore and they've had a strep outbreak so I needed to pick her up. I didn't think much about it (except for the hassle of getting her...I still had patients to see). When I got her, I asked her to stick out her tongue...and there were white spots on her throat! Oh no! So I call her doctor who graciously let me bring her in and run a strep screen. And yes, my patients were still waiting for me. Good news, no strep. Just a virus. And she's been good all day today.
Yesterday was a beautiful day so L and I took the stroller out to do a little retail therapy. Grandma Linda gave us some Gymbucks so we bought L new clothes, swimsuit, hat and purse. I bought soap at Bath and Body Works. We stopped at the pet store and found some toys for Haley and Reggie. They were happy campers! We capped the night off with dinner and game night at the Loving's. It was a great evening and we got to know Emily and Mike better.
Today was super productive. I have almost my whole to do list done. I got several need to do jobs done and the house is looking cleaner. So now we're off to go soak in the hot tub. Hopefully this week will be a little more low keyed. I'm taking Tuesday off to get L's teeth fixed. I hope that goes really well. Will blog after it's done.

School Choices
Today we went to the school district's Choice Fair. All of the elementary schools, magnet schools and high schools (if they have special features) were there tonight. Jeff and I wanted to check out the magnet schools to see if there were any good choices out there. We were surprised and impressed by the number of people at the fair. We checked out two magnet schools. Isley, which is a traditional magnet, was impressive. The class size is small (less than 22 kids/class), the values are all traditional (like what we grew up with) and it's a privilege to go there, not a right so there's more school spirit and more parent involvement. We also checked out Mueller which is a new elementary school. They are a magnet that specializes in engineering. Very interesting concept and a lot of hands on experience. We also visited with the kindergarten teacher from our neighborhood school. We were really glad we checked it out and have a lot of thinking to do in the next few weeks.

Getting Back to Normalcy
I finally feel like the holidays are over. The Christmas decorations went down, the leftover cookies are gone, and I'm starting to think about Valentine's Day.
This week was one crazy week. Changing our office to electronic is wonderful, but it's exhausting. I felt a little bad because I haven't worked out since Tuesday. And on Friday, I felt really bad. But then I thought, be patient, be still and enjoy the ride. So I got up on Saturday morning and did two of my favorite activities, grocery shopping and the library. The rest of the day, I played. Watched a basketball game, took a nap, fixed a great supper. And I felt great just to relax and be in the moment.
So today, I was productive and swept the floors, cleaned up all the decorations and took a trip to Michael's. I wasn't fit this week, but because I took a mental health break, I am ready to hit the treadmill and swim this week.
Patience...it feels good.

We're Live!
Today we started using our electronic medical records. It was exciting and exhausting. I ran more than 60 minutes late at one point today (which is longer than normal). The program is pretty easy to use. There's just a lot of things to type, click on, etc. But tonight as I came home, I thought how nice it was that all my patients are completed. No need to finish their charts tomorrow or this weekend. I love that feeling. You know the best part? There's only two more days left in the week. Then I can rest my eyes.

Project Life
Christmas continued today! Okay, so I bought this gift myself, but I'm still so excited. Becky Higgins is one of the leading scrapbook ladies and she has put together a scrapbook to complete. I take one picture a day and there are journaling cards to make notes and slide it into one of the slots. And voila! On December 31st I have a scrapbook of an entire year. I.Love.It!!!

Again???
We had the Loving's over last night and played video games. When they left, we discovered that it had been snowing. I'm not sure how long it lasted, but when I went to get the paper this morning there was a fresh coat of snow on everything.
It seems like we've had 4 snows in the past 2 weeks and while I like the powdery stuff, I'm ready for a little warmer weather (40's would be nice).

Frosty 5K
Once again, I ran in the Frosty 5K today. I am training for a half marathon in March and I flipped days so my 3 mile run was today. It was very chilly today...22 degrees. I couldn't feel my toes and fingers for the first mile, but then I warmed up. I finished in 32:14. Not my best time, but I'm going for consistency, not speed while I train.
I chose not to listen to music this morning and took in the world around me. There were spots of ice on the ground, the river was glazed with ice. But best of all was the bald eagle I saw flying above us. What an awesome sight while running. That's what it's all about.
