Can You Believe She's 6 ?!?

I cannot believe how mature looking L is in her dance costumes. She is such a beautiful girl. I can't wait for the recital!

Jeff's Mock Graduation

L and I planned to go to Hays to watch Jeff receive his hood for his Master's in Education, but I was so tired and ill, it didn't make sense for us to go (I was looking forward to the naps in the car more than anything). So we watched it online (live) which was a good substitute. The next day, we gave Jeff his gifts. L had to try on his hat. She wants to keep it for her graduation.
She made Jeff put on his hat and hood while he opened the gifts. Too cute.

All Better Now

On the 13th day, she finally felt good...all day. Thank goodness!! I had the worst virus ever. My throat was swollen, I had a mouth full of cankersores and blisters and I was soooo tired. Everything was monumental. I missed two and a half days of work, Jeff's graduation from Fort Hays State and a friend's daughter's dance recital. But I woke up this morning feeling GREAT!!! I was hungry and energetic all day. In fact, the day flew by.

My sick buddy (see below) hasn't been as excited that I'm getting better. I mean, she's happy I feel good, but when I was sick we spent A LOT of time together. Sleeping in bed, watching TV. Now she's hiding under the chair as I type just to be near me. It's a little sad (and pathetic). But she'll be okay, as long as she's fed.

My Mother's Day

Well, my mother's day definitely wasn't I thought it would be. My weekend plans were to paint L's room Saturday, do a little house cleaning so that I could enjoy Sunday to the fullest. I was going to hang out with L and Jeff, maybe plant some flowers and read.

In reality, I was sick all weekend. I felt like I had the flu Friday, rested well, but Sat didn't get any better. Painting plans scrapped. I thought, I'll rest all day Sat so I can enjoy Sunday.

Wrong again. Jeff and L showered me with beautiful gifts: WSU flip flops and a WSU bag. L made me a picture and a coupon book and they got me a great frame to hang anything on it.

And then I headed to the ER. I cried the whole time because my plans didn't pan out and I felt miserable. Diagnosis: strep throat. My recurrent childhood illness came back to haunt me. It seems like strep ruined many a birthday party when I was little.

So I picked up my antibiotic and steroids, had a self pity party and then had a great, modified, Mother's Day. I got to watch whatever I wanted, finished a great book and started another, and had a delicious, delivered to home dinner from Cinnamon's Deli. And my throat doesn't feel like there are razor blades in it every time I swallow. So that's definitely making progress.

Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers and to my mom who is the best. I can't wait to see her in a few weeks.

Meeting Ember

Tonight we were able to meet Melissa and Joe's daughter. She was born 10 days ago and she is a cutie. We met her awake while she was eating. She promptly fell asleep and L held her for a long time. I took a few pictures when she woke up.

The quizzical look.

The "I am a sweet girl" picture.

Ember hiding from the camera.

L had to get in on the photo. Sweet girls.

Too Much Fun

Last night I should have been cleaning this,

Or this...

And especially this.

Instead, I was playing Just Dance on the Wii!

What a great game! We played for 1/2 hour and I got a great workout in. There are lots of good songs to dance too. And I know the housework will always be there.

May Day

Today was May 1st and L and I decided to make May Day baskets. I used to make them with my mom and it turned out to be a really fun project with L. We constructed baskets, wrote Happy May Day and decorated them.

The finished product.

She had a great time running to the houses, ringing the doorbell and running away. She got " caught" twice and was profusely thanked.
