Tommy's

Last night, Jeff and I had a date while L was at a birthday party.  I thought we'd go back to Tommy's, a restaurant out west that's old school.  Unfortunately, the new owners are making it more hip, so there's not much to write about the meal (although my sweet potato gnocchi was delish).

But Tommy's reminds me a lot of a restaurant in Lawrence called Nabil's.  I'm not sure what entralled me more as a kid...the fact that it was underground and dark.  Or the Shirley Temples.  Or the calamari.  Or having my dad's friend, Jim, take us out (it was the only time we went).  But I loved that place, especially the memories.
