Birdies
I went to the endodontist today to see if I need a root canal. The verdict is I have a cracked tooth and need a crown but I still might need a root canal. In his office he has some very pretty birds. L and I loved watching them while we waited.

Downtime
This week our electronic medical record (EMR) system has been done. It's been stressful and at times, boring without all the records and faxes. It's been a challenge to make decisions without past records. I've had extra down time so to keep myself from going insane, I've been reading. I've gotten three books read this week.

Dinner with the Robinson's
Our New Water Heater!
On Wednesday morning our shower was lukewarm at best. Jeff went to the basement and found the heater was leaking. Thank goodness for home warranties. In two days, we got a new water heater. As soon as it was working I started the clothes washer and dishwasher. I can't wait to take a hot shower.

Computer Frustration
This is my desk. Looks normal, right? But it's not. Our EMR system has been down for a day and I have to see patients with no past records an I get to handwritten everything to type when it finally comes back up (hard drives crashed). I wish I was at the beach like my screen saver shows.

Book Breakup
I love to read. I often have book hangovers, which is when you finished the book, but you can't get your mind out of it. It's nice to enjoy books like that although it takes me a few hours to get over it.
On the opposite end, I have book breakups. It doesn't happen near as often (thank goodness). I try to give a book 50 pages and if I'm just not into it, then I'll quit. I realize it takes time to understand and relate when there are multiple characters.
My last breakup was yesterday. I've been reading a book called, "The Heart Broke In" by James Meek. I'm sure it's a good book for some people, but not me. First, the plot starts in London. I'm not a fan of British plots. Then there are too many characters and it takes forever to figure out how they are related to each other. I'm 150 pages into this 400 page book and all I can think of is, "this book is taking forever and isn't fullfiilling". So last night I decided I'd vested enough interest in it and I didn't want to finish it so we broke up. I'm feeling a little guilty, but it too will pass.

Last night L was junior leader. She decided to make first aid kits, have a police officer talk about safety and made ice cream sundaes for the girls.

Houston Marathon
Yesterday I ran 26.2 miles in the Houston Marathon. I've been training for four months, some in nice weather, some in cold weather. But nothing I have done prepared me for yesterday.
The forcasted temperature was 49 degrees with a north wind of 13 miles per hour. 30% chance of rain.
In reality, the start was 45 degrees, 13-15 mph winds and RAIN. and I'm not talking mist or sprinkles. I'm talking rain. Coupled with the wind, the start was not ideal. I saw several people turn around a mile in. But I persevered. I had a pancho that covered up my top to warm me up some. My hat was a life saver.
I started off and my gel pack fell out so I fixes it then had to pee and by mile 2-3, I was in a groove. Shortly after I found the 5:30 pace group and I stayed with them until mile 21. The pace group was wonderful! We ran 6-8 minutes, then walked a minute. I felt great until mile 21. I had a short mental low but I got thru it. I was very proud of myself because I ran the whole way with 1-3 minute walk breaks.
The rain cleared off by mile 10. But the wind was still crazy. Every time I would put my hat lid up to look around a burst of wind would kick up and try to blow my hat off. So I didn't appreciate the course the entire way. But the part I saw was beautiful. The crowd support was awesome the entire way! I even saw a high school friend cheering people on.
My time was 5:40:10. I am thrilled with my time. I am thrilled I didn't have major pain and feel pretty good today.

American Girl Day
This am, Judy, Shirley and I ran the 5K. It was humid! We checked out the expo, headed home and then went back out to go to American Girl store. L has been dying to go to the store since she found out we were going to Houston. She was very happy. Her doll got pierced ears and they both got pjs.

The Keys
The keys. A plastic set of three keys.
They are Oreo's pacifier (oh, he has a set of those too).
He loves to chew in them all the time.
Lucy just likes to steal them from him.
So now they have three sets of keys so he can rotate chewing in them.
And Lucy still likes to steal whichever set he has.
Sigh.

Monday Ritual
On Monday afternoons, our friend Trish picks up L and Liv and takes L to dance. Trish is also very sweet and gets the girls a snack, usually a taco from Taco Bell. Yesterday, they went to Popeye's where L ate two drumsticks and cleaned up Liv's two drumsticks. My girl loves chicken.

Puppies!
We got to meet our friend, Judy's puppies today. They are 8 week old schoodles!!!!!
Yes, I am in love with them. No I don't want puppies. I am happy that my two current rugrats behave most of the time.
They are so sweet. We named them Chloe and Violet. Judy has a schnauzer named Lily. She was unimpressed with the babies. They slept a lot while we were there.

The First Snow of 2013
2013 Word of the Year: Simplify
Happy New Year!! Another year has passed, another year full of hope. I hope 2013 is a good year.
My word for the year is Simplify. I feel I do too much multitasking and time wasting and not enough time to stop and look what's around me. Just like many of us, we spread ourselves too thin. I'm applying simplify to work, home, and businesses. I want to get back to the time when life was more simple.
My 2013 goals support my word of the year. They include:
1. Take breaks from social media. While I love Facebook, Pinterest (and sometimes Twitter), sometimes I spend way to much time checking updates. So on a daily basis, I will check sites less often and go on 2-3 day breaks periodically.
2. Keep up my long runs. This goal is to continue to keep me healthy as well as to allow my brain much needed quiet time. It's out in the country when I'm running that I really appreciate life.
3. Purge one room per month. We have TOO MUCH STUFF. It's everywhere. There's so much stuff sometimes we can't find what we need. L has more toys than she could ever play with. It's a lofty goal, but if I get it accomplished, I should be done by October.
4. Bake more. Another hobby I would like to pursue. One that will require more patience and allow me to spend quality time with L.
5. Have more patience. I find when I'm not simplifying (multitasking too much), I lose my cool more often.
6. Control my anxiety. Anxiety is created by living in the future and I'm determined to spend more time in the present.
