Tanganyika!

My parents were here a few weeks ago and we went to Tanganyika.  My parents hadn't been there before.  We love it but it's on the other side of town so we don't go often.  L got a wrist band which allowed her to do several things with the animals.
First up: feeding the giraffes.  They got a little piece of lettuce.  L says their tongues are slimy.

Then we went to see Posey, the hippo.  She loves sweet potatoes.  We watched several little kids before her miss, but L was great and got them in Posey's mouth.

Don't be fooled...these monkeys are not quiet or still.  They are cute little things, but mischievous!

We spent quite a bit of time with the Loki's.  The birds eat nectar and LOVE it!! L had a great time feeding them.  They are quite charming (and loud!!)

We also saw the goats (what a crazy bunch of cousins!!), tortoises, bunnies and lemurs.  L fed the lemurs cran raisins and stated that was her favorite animal!  We will definitely be back again!.

Fitness Friday: August 28th!!

First of all, I can't believe it's almost the end of August AND I can't believe I'm almost at 100 days of running!!!  Here's this week in review:
Saturday: quick run before the rain came in.  9:18 mile and a short walk after.

Sunday: I was super lazy, slept in and piddled around until noon.  Luckily the weather was still gorgeous and I ran a 10:43 mile in 68 degrees!

Monday: back to Shocker Fitness and Extreme (which was a new set this week and boy, do I hurt!).  My mile was 9:58.  We added a new member, Shelly to join us in our morning runs.

Tuesday: campus run/walk.  It's so nice to visit with my friends for an hour.  We always find things to talk about.  Mile- 10:20.

Wednesday: The morning was nice!  I ran a 9:58 mile and then went to Shocker Fit/Extreme

Thursday: I slept through my alarm, so it was a quick solo 1 mile at 10:41.

Friday: Today was sprinkling but I HATE running indoors so I convinced the ladies we could run outside and it wasn't bad.  Mile- 10:41.

Smooshed!

I love this photo. I wish I could find the old one to go with it. It's funny-L was grumpy when they took the picture but then started laughing afterwards.

The Fifth Grade!!!

Oh my! I can't believe we have a 5th grader in the house. L is excited because she gets her 3rd grade teacher this year. I'm not going to lie-I'm excited too. I love her and I don't have to learn another person's expectations.

The top photo is the best of the bunch but I like the bottom photo is hilarious because Oreo is looking out the door.

Fitness Friday: August 14!

Oh my! 7 days and 6 of them hard workouts. I am beat!!! But I feel stronger and am so glad I can keep running and exercising.
Here's my workouts...

Saturday: my running partner was MIA so I ran 5.25 miles in Sedgwick County Park.  One mile warm up walk, mile running 10:18 and then 3.25 miles of run 2 minutes, walk 1 minute.

Sunday: I ran to pick my van up from getting the oil change-1.90 miles.  Mile was 10:08.  Humidity was 71% and at 2 pm-warm!!  I cooled off with a treat from Starbucks.

Monday: silly storms kept us inside.  We ran 10 minutes and called it good.  Shocker Fitness was relays and circuit followed by Extreme (weight lifting).

Tuesday: much nicer morning!  After our warm up, I ran a 11:08 mile and then we walked to finish 4 miles.  We love to chat!

Wednesday: another great day! My mile was 9:08-close to my PR.  69 degrees outside sure helped.  SF consisted of 8 fast run and a 30 minute circuit.  Extreme was 20 stations of different weight lifting.

Thursday: Beautiful morning! 69 degrees again.  Mile was 10:04 and then we walked in the park for 4.17 total miles.

Friday: Humidity was back and running was hard.  Top off that I felt like my blood sugar was low.  My mile was 10:03.  SF was hard-jog, run, walk for 14 minutes.  Moving circuit.  Extreme was 9 exercises (x 2).  I was wiped out!
